I'd like to see what everyone has to say about English immersion in schools today. Should foreign students be forced to learn English by complete immersion or should they be treated differently? And how should a school that doesn't have enough funds to create ESL classes deal with this issue? I know this issue sprung up a heated and interesting debate in my psychology class, so I'd like to see what everyone here thinks.

I think that the only way that foreign students will truly learn the language is by complete immersion. That being said, it is hardly fair to judge and grade these students on the same level as the English speaking students. If the foreign students are surrounded by English speakers socially through the day, it would be ideal for them to have an ESL teacher helping them with their coursework. This is obviously not always something that can become a reality, and if it is not, is there any other option besides complete immersion?
